Jenna Ortega took some cello lessons to get the basic moves down when doing her cello scenes. Like Tara Reid did with her drumming for Jose and the Pussycats.

It's obvious she tried to learn the song as not to be totally fake looking, but this is not her performance. A true musician is going to know she should not be using her bow during the plucking parts, and the slides don't correspond with what is happening musicly. I will give her props though because she is playing along with the song for some of the easier parts. but once the difficult parts start she stops following the music and just kind of mangles the chello. Also no self respecting chelloist would hinder them selves by playing with nails. it ruins your dexterity and finger freedom. A performance like this would be impossible with nails.

Wendy Law made a video breaking all of this down and analyzing the clip of Jenna playing vs what you see hearing that's worth checking out. Even though Jenna is not the one you are hearing play this song, she did a pretty good job of looking the part.

The dance reminds me of the dance scene from the 1987 movie Can't Buy Me Love. "It's the African Anteater Ritual!" 😎

Fun facts: Jenna Ortega learned how to play the cello just two months before filming Wednesday. She also learned fencing, German, boxing and archery for the role. On top of all that, she choreographed the now-famous Wednesday dance number.
